Julia Kobceva

Born and raised in Latvia. Began dancing when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Riga Choreographic School with Professional Ballet Dancer's Diploma and went to join Riga Ballet Theater Company in 1999. Kobceva attended the Latvian Academy of Culture where she received a BFA. Studies included cultural practices/art history concerning Latvia and Ancient Europe as well as international modern art, music and popular dance traditions. She continued her training in France at the "L'Institut de Formaiton Professionelle de danse jazz de Rick Odums for three years as a scholarship student where she studied jazz dance. Kobceva has performed, toured and assist master classes with "Ballet Jazz Rick Odums". In 2006 she received the scholarship to attend Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. A three week intensive contemporary dance workshop/festival where Kobceva had an opportunity to study with choreographers Robert Battle, Elisa Monte, Lisa Viola from Paul Taylor dance company, Arkady Zaides from "Batsheva" dance company and Tim Rushton fron Danish Dance Theater. In 2007 Kobceva continued her studies at Dance New Amsterdam ( New York ) as a scholarship student. Since 2007 she had regularly worked in New York with choreographers Gina Graham, Nathan Trice, Mariana Bekerman, Maija Garcia and OrganicMagnetics, Yayoi Kubota. Eventually Kobceva wants to build her own dance company and to choreograph her self.
